I suppose an example of what Hume is saying is that when something good or bad happens someone, perhaps a "vain reasoner", will say something along the lines of everything happens for a reason. For example, when someone passes away God has a greater plan for them. But I say if life on earth right now is just a stepping stone to something better and greater what is the point? Why live righteously now if you are just going to go somewhere else? What is the point in this world at all?

I was watching this anime and some villian asked the same question, the main character said, the point is to live your lives as best as you can. No one is gonna know why bad things happen to good people, not even priests. I have another question why do good people allow bad things to happen to themselves, two reasons we have no control of this supposed thing called destiny or another thing called karma meaning we allow a bad thing to happen to another good person. Is there such thing as a good person after all because there are two types of bad people people who do bad things,or people who watch allow or ignore bad things that are done. And what is exactly bad? It seems to me if you're rich or didn't get caught that's what makes you look GOOD in society.
Maybe the terms "good" and "bad" are synthetic judgements that cannot be easily analyzed or quantified and the only reason they make sense to us as words are due in part to the context we place behind each one. So when in fact someone is doing a good thing we have to look at the big picture and really see what kind of good deed is being done. It may even be that someone is doing a good thing for a a bad person or that your helping a bad person do a good thing. So life isent about what good or bad things you do its merely about living and breathing and either following the herd and being mediocre or building your principals and following your mind and heart until its time to go, as they say.
